QUALIFICATIONS:

12 units in early childhood education completed at an approved college. At least 6 months work
experience in a licensed child care program, under the supervision of a qualified teacher; or:
-A current Child Development Association credential plus 6 months on the job training work
experience in a licensed child care program; or:
-A Children's Center Permit issued by the California Commission on Teacher Preparation and
Licensing.

Basic Function:

-The Assistant Teacher is responsible to support the Head Teacher and take direction from her/him so that
they work as a team and establish goals for the class of children under their care. She/he must support
the teacher by giving lessons as directed preparing projects, and helping to maintain a beautiful,
meticulously ordered, spotlessly clean, environment.

Specific Responsibilities:

-Support the Head Teacher and back up her efforts to manage the class without undermining her
authority.
-Be consistent in reinforcing the basic ground rules, in a gentle but firm voice.
-Step in and remove a disruptive child if there is an incident while the Head Teacher is giving a lesson
or leading a group activity. Redirect this child to an activity. Action must always be loving and
compassionate.
-Supervise and keep your eyes on the whole classroom while the Head Teacher is giving an individual
lesson. Redirect the children who have not yet found an activity.
-Follow the specific duties provided to assist you in keeping the environment in meticulous order and
spotlessly clean.
-Cut paper, sew, wash, prepare art projects, etc. as directed.
-Direct group music, art, etc. as requested by the Head Teacher.
-Help in the developing and production of special programs, Holiday program, Spring Show, art
exhibition, etc.
- Assist the Head Teacher to prepare for Open House - Parent's Night - Children's Night - Art Show.
Communicate openly with the Head Teacher and ask for direction and suggestions. The success oft he Head Teacher's goals for the class depends largely on a strong, supportive, assisting Teacher
with a good attitude.
-Playground supervision requires you to move around, interact with the children, listen to their
language, and encourage cooperation. Have children use their words to resolve conflict.
