Job Description

Digital Asset Manager Reporting to the Digital Archive and Program Manager, the Digital Asset Manager will be part of a global team responsible for stewarding digital image files for a wide range of gallery uses. This position will also work with Image Archivists to maintain a Digital Asset Management System containing roughly 250,000 assets and growing. They will continue to create and refine procedural documentation for the DAMS. Candidates should be able to balance long‑term project management skills with the daily fast‑paced environment of the gallery as the DAMS grows to encompass assets from each gallery department. The DAMS is a pivotal resource for the global sales organization and connects to internal systems to supply assets to different platforms seamlessly. As such, this position will work closely with the Engineering team to maintain the current API and think strategically about future uses of integrations. The Digital Asset Manager will be a key advocate for the DAMS, and must therefore be able to communicate complex or technical procedures effectively to stakeholders in terms that show an understanding of the gallery’s overarching goals and needs. Responsibilities Oversee day‑to‑day and long‑term administration and use of DAMS, while working hands‑on with assets, metadata, and users by directly contributing, organizing, describing, and disseminating assets Oversee the creation and editing of internal documentation that provides relevant staff with instructions for the DAMS and how it interacts with the gallery’s existing inventory management system Regularly meet with management to provide updates regarding the progress of implementation projects, usage statistics, timelines, and other assessment data Collaborate across departments to gain a deep understanding of unique information and digital asset needs across the gallery. Provide support for implementing procedures and workflows aimed at reducing redundancies while increasing efficiency and consistency pertaining to the creation, storage, and retrieval of digital assets Partner with the Technology department and key stakeholders to plan system customizations, upgrades, integrations, testing, and maintenance Spend significant time with Institutional Archives, Photography, Publications, Technology, and Communications departments to develop and support good, sustainable practices for the digital asset lifecycle to ensure the DAMS is used to its greatest potential Manage and oversee contractors working in the DAMS Facilitate training for new and existing DAMS users Keep up with digital asset management best practices Collaborate closely with the DAMS vendor on system updates, and any support issues that may arise Qualifications 3-5 years of experience with collections management systems and digital asset management systems Understanding of digital image and video formats, file types, and preservation best practices Experience creating metadata schemas and file naming conventions Experience migrating assets from legacy systems into DAMS Understanding of digital rights management, intellectual property law, including “fair use” and similar copyright issues Preferred Qualifications Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science (preferred but not required) Familiarity with Adobe Bridge, Photoshop and/or Lightroom Knowledge of modern and contemporary art practices Experience with Acquia DAMS Benefits and Perks Comprehensive benefits suite through Cigna, including a fully subsidized employee‑only level HSA plan MetLife pet insurance A 401(k) retirement savings plan with a company match Employee discount on Gagosian products and publications Pre‑tax flexible spending, dependent care, and commuter benefits Position Type Full‑time, Regular, Salaried position.
