Now Hiring: Permanent Safety Specialist

The Safety Specialist assists, plans, and implements safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal rules and regulations, including those set by OSHA, MSHA, and DOT. This role involves advising the Safety Director on compliance concerns, planning employee training on worksite safety, maintaining safety records, and performing safety surveys and inspections.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the planning and implementation of safety policies and procedures in compliance with OSHA, MSHA, and DOT regulations.
• Advise the Safety Director on safety compliance concerns and preventative actions.
• Plan and implement training programs for employees on worksite safety practices.
• Maintain safety files and records.
• Conduct safety surveys and inspections.
• Prepare written reports of findings and recommendations for corrective or preventive measures and ensure follow-up.
• Conduct post-accident investigations and prepare reports identifying possible causes and hazards.
• Accompany personnel to job sites to perform drug tests.
• Assist in the development, evaluation, and upgrading of safety programs.
• Manage inspection of job sites, equipment, and vehicles to ensure safe working conditions.

Essential Skills

• At least 3 years of safety-related experience in the construction industry, including experience with OSHA, First Aid/CPR, Confined Spaces, DOT, and Excavation safety.
• Experience writing detailed reports and procedures and documenting investigations.
• Experience presenting to and training small groups on safety procedures and regulations.
• Excellent computer and communication skills.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in an environmental and/or occupational health and safety-related field preferred.
• CHST certification or ability to obtain within a year preferred.
• Experience with trenching, sloping, fall protection, confined space, underground excavation, and installation of duct banks.

Work Environment

The position is based in a job trailer at a Data Center location in Des Moines, with some travel required within a two-hour radius a few days each month. The work schedule is Monday to Friday, with 10-hour days. The dress code includes jeans, work boots, and work-appropriate t-shirts or sweatshirts. High visibility vests, glasses, hard hats, gloves, and other safety equipment are provided on site.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Des Moines, IA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $80000.00 - $110000.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
