Bullion St., Hailey, ID, 83333 ph: (208) 578-5000, fx: (208) 578-5110 TITLE: Bus Aide/Monitor PAY GRADE: Classified Salary Schedule FLSA: Non-Exempt SUPERVISOR: Transportation Supervisor TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Works on-site according to designated schedule Responsibilities SUMMARY: The Bus Aide assists in the safe and pleasant transportation of students whose IEP calls for an aide on the bus. Minimum Qualifications High School Diploma or equivalent required. One (1) year of related experience preferred. Must be able to administer first aid/CPR. Spanish language skills or bilingualism preferred but not required. Any equivalent combination of education and experience. Essential Duties and Responsibilities (This list of essential duties is not a comprehensive listing of all functions and tasks performed by positions in this class. It does not imply that all positions within the class perform all of the duties listed, nor does it necessarily list all possible duties that may be assigned.) Answers multiple busy phone lines efficiently. Ensures the safety and well-being of children being transported to and from the program and on field trips on vehicles used by the program. Help children board the bus safely and assist teachers with departure preparations (putting on coats and ensuring each child has belongings). Ensure the bus driver is not distracted from the safe operation of the vehicle; help children safely get off the bus and into the custody of authorized individuals; retrieve any fallen objects during the bus ride. Follows and ensures mandated child restraint procedures, ensuring children are properly positioned and restrained as listed in the IEP. Attend mandatory training(s) provided by the school nurse if health needs are a concern. Engage in safe activities for a moving vehicle, consistent with Developmentally Appropriate Practices to make the trip pleasant and comfortable. Assure safe evacuation of children and adult passengers (following the Bus Evacuation Plan) and assist in assuring all passengers are transported to the nearest hospital or to their private physician as per Medical/Accident Emergency Plan in case of an accident or emergency. Assist in completing accident reports when appropriate. Report any traffic violations incurred by the Bus Driver to the school administrator. Attend all scheduled staff meetings, team meetings, and trainings as requested. Supervise sign-in and sign-out procedures. Follow the center's sick-child policy with regard to receiving children on the bus. Give parents any notes or written materials sent from the school and distribute notes from parents to the appropriate school staff. Receive children\'s medicines from parents and return them to parents. Relay parents\' questions to the special education teacher. When asked, may inform parents of any pertinent information about the child\'s bus ride or condition. Assist in maintaining the interior of the vehicle in a clean and safe operating condition. Assure that no child is ever left unsupervised on a bus. Performs other duties, as may be assigned. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of reading and interpreting documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Skill in communicating clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Skill in effectively communicating in one-on-one and small group situations to parents, students, and other employees of the District. Skill in interpreting and implementing a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables. Ability to work in a friendly manner and develop effective working relationships with students, staff, and the school community. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all District requirements, Board of Education policies, and applicable State and Federal laws. Ability to communicate rules and instructions and exchange accurate information. Physical Demands and Work Environment The job is performed with indoor exposure including student noise and music, possible communicable diseases, or unruly students and outdoor exposure including variable temperatures and weather conditions, dust, pesticides, exhaust.
