Welder

Are you a welder and mechanically inclined looking to expand your skill sets in both areas? SMS group is the place for you!!

SMS group is an industrial equipment manufacturer for the steel industry. We design, build, and service equipment and sleep plants across the globe with a strong technical services/machine shop network in North America.

The right candidate will:

• Perform welding operations such as arc, MIG, TIG brazing and burning in all positions on a variety of metals.
• Operate drill press to make parts for fabrication.
• Record measurements, record pertinent information as required.
• Good mechanical skills to assist on the shop floor on down days
• Weld per SMAW, GMAW, GTAW standards; vertical up, vertical down, and horizontal
• Plasma arc cutting
• Air carbon arc cutting
• Pipe bending, fitting, welding, and threading
• Use horizontal and vertical saws, torch, and cut off wheel
• Set up and operate all welding machines, be able to do basic troubleshooting
• Set up and operate all machines in the fabrication area, be able to do basic troubleshooting

What you'll need:

• GED or High school Diplomas or welding certifications
• TIG and MIG welding - 10-15% of the day
• Basic Mechanical applications - 85% of the day
• Follow instructions and established procedures.
• Read and interpret prints, including welding prints
