Position Summary

The Janitorial Technician is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, sanitation, appearance, and overall condition of assigned school facilities. This position performs a variety of custodial duties throughout classrooms, offices, hallways, restrooms, cafeterias, gymnasiums, and common areas to ensure a clean, safe, and welcoming environment.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Maintain assigned school buildings in a clean, sanitary, safe, and orderly condition.

• Sweep, mop, scrub, strip, wax, buff, and vacuum floors using commercial cleaning equipment.

• Empty trash and recycling containers and transport waste to designated disposal areas.

• Clean, disinfect, sanitize, and restock restrooms.

• Clean classrooms, offices, hallways, cafeterias, gymnasiums, locker rooms, and common areas.

• Dust furniture, desks, windowsills, equipment, ledges, and other surfaces.

• Clean glass, mirrors, doors, partitions, and interior windows.

• Clean and polish furniture and fixtures.

• Set up and move desks, tables, chairs, and equipment for meetings, school activities, and special events.

• Mix and use cleaning chemicals according to manufacturer specifications and company procedures.

• Identify and report maintenance concerns, equipment issues, and safety hazards.

• Complete assigned work efficiently while maintaining high quality standards.

• Participate in required safety meetings and training.

• Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisors.

Qualifications

• A minimum of one (1) year of commercial, institutional, or custodial cleaning experience is required.

• Experience cleaning schools, healthcare facilities, office buildings, manufacturing facilities, or similar commercial environments is strongly preferred.

• Knowledge of commercial cleaning procedures, floor care, sanitation practices, and the safe use of cleaning chemicals.

• Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions in English.

• Reliable transportation is required.

• Excellent attendance and dependability are essential.

• Must successfully pass a criminal background check.

This position is performed within a local school district and includes:

Physical Requirements

Candidates must be able to:

• Stand and walk for the majority of each shift.

• Frequently bend, kneel, squat, twist, reach, and climb stairs.

• Lift and carry up to 50 pounds.

• Push and pull cleaning carts, equipment, furniture, and supplies.

• Move desks, chairs, tables, and other classroom furnishings as needed.

• Wear a backpack vacuum for extended periods.

• Safely operate commercial cleaning equipment and tools.

• Perform repetitive physical tasks throughout the shift.

• Work in environments with varying temperatures and above-average noise levels.

Safety Expectations

Employees are expected to:

• Wear all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

• Follow proper lifting techniques and safe work practices.

• Safely operate cleaning equipment and tools.

• Properly use cleaning chemicals according to company procedures.

• Immediately report unsafe conditions, maintenance concerns, or damaged equipment.

• Follow all company and school safety policies and procedures.
