Job Description

Law Enforcement Training Specialist

You will conduct lectures, discussions, guided conferences and demonstration methods to present law enforcement, investigative techniques, procedures and practical application sessions.

You will assist with organizing, scheduling and coordinating training courses that maximize individual competencies or maintain performance levels.

You will develop Performance Objectives and Standards to aide in identifying training needs and requirements of each student; ensure the knowledge and skills are developed in current concepts and techniques in Law Enforcement and Security.

You will provide classroom studies and instructions on use of law enforcement equipment and application of techniques.

You will coordinate, develop and maintain effective relationship with the training community of various Federal, state and local law enforcement, intelligence and security agencies.

Provide instruction in First Aid/CPR/AED, Emergency Vehicle Operation, Active Shooter and other law enforcement requirements; instruct in Firearms safety and conduct the Weapons Qualification; test for weapons proficiency.

Must be a US Citizen.

Must be determined suitable for federal employment.

Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.

Generally, current federal employees applying for GS jobs must serve at least one year at the next lower grade level. This requirement is called time-in-grade.

Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.

Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.

You must satisfactorily pass the Police Applicant Suitability Review (PASR) investigation.

This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.

This position requires rotating shift work.

You must have reached your 18th birthday prior to appointment.

This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases.

You must be able to lift and/or carry loads/items up to 50 pounds in weight.

You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.

This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. You will be required to sign a DD-Form-2760, Qualification to possess firearms or ammunition.

You must meet the qualifications and be certified to carry a firearm. You will need to maintain firearm proficiency.

You will be required to obtain and maintain a final SECRET security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.

You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Teaching, training, researching, making presentations, lecturing, testing, and other instructional methods; Determining objectives and strategies; Coordinating with other parts of an organization to accomplish goals; Monitoring and evaluating the progress and outcomes for learners; AND Interpreting training requirements and curriculum needs and independently adapting training to fit the needs of the learner.

In lieu of specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience: Successful completion a master's or equivalent graduate degree in Education or a subject area related to the position to be filled. OR Completion of two full years of progressively higher graduate level education leading to a master's degree in Education or a subject area related to the position to be filled. OR Obtained an LL.B. or J.D. that is related to the position being filled. OR Possess a combination of specialized experience and education as described above that equates to one year of experience. The percentage of the required education plus the percentage of the required experience must equal 100 percent. A transcript must be submitted with your application if qualifying using education.
